April 17, 2014 (Norfolk, Va.) The European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) hosted its annual conference April 4- 8 in Vienna, Austria. CIRS was one of nearly 100 companies to exhibit at the event, showcasing quality assurance phantoms for radiation therapy.
CIRS welcomed the opportunity to provide hands-on demonstrations of their more complex products, including the Dynamic Thorax Phantom, which provides known, accurate and repeatable three-dimensional target motion inside a tissue-equivalent phantom.
Also showcased was the Stereotactic End-to-End Verification Phantom (STEEV) and its complete set of interchangeable inserts. STEEV allows comprehensive testing of Stereotactic Radiosurgery Systems including treatment plan verification.
These phantoms could play a role in achieving ESTRO’s Vision for 2020, which looks to a future where “treatment is individualized for the specific patient’s cancer.” CIRS believes QA testing of patient-specific treatment plans with phantoms like STEEV and the Dynamic Thorax will ultimately better patient outcomes and improve quality of life.
CIRS looks forward to exhibiting these and similar products again at the American Association of Medical Physicists (AAPM) 2014 in Austin, Texas this July.
