Image Uniformity and Geometric Accuracy Phantoms now available to comply with ACR requirements

April 29, 2014 (Norfolk, Va.) CIRS released two new quality assurance phantoms at the AIUM Annual Convention in Las Vegas as a cost effective solution for satisfying updated ultrasound accreditation requirements published by the ACR.

To complete annual image uniformity and artifact surveys detailed in the program, CIRS launched the Accreditation Phantom for Uniformity, Model 551. The phantom aids appropriately trained personnel in identifying the presence of lateral and/or axial streaks.

The CIRS Model 552, Accreditation Phantom for Geometric Accuracy, is used to verify geometric accuracy in the vertical and horizontal directions and system sensitivity on most transducers—another test required annually for accreditation. The phantom may also be used to evaluate image uniformity of linear transducers.

The updated ACR accreditation program will go into effect June 1 for facilities maintaining or seeking accreditation. For more information regarding new program requirements, visit www.acr.org.
